How To Make Homemade Wine |
While there are tried and true procedures and methods for making wine, a wine is not truly successful until personal touches are added.
The best fruit to use in the wine-making is grapes as they have the best balance of ingredients and flavors. Wine is created by anaerobic fermentation, a process where the sugar present in the juice and fruit consumes the sugars and changes it into a carbonated alcohol mixture. All other ingredients besides the fruit are used to alter the taste to your specific preferences.
When you are just getting started, choose simple, proven recipes, using quality grape juices from specialty supermarkets or wine stores.
Pour the juice into a five-gallon sterilized carboy and leave a few inches of room at the top so it can breathe and expand. Put on the air-locked lid and let the mixture sit for about a month.
If the juice you are using as a base is not fermenting, add two campden tablets for every gallon of juice you are using. Crush the tablets to help them dissolve evenly, and cover the juice to let it sit for twenty four hours. The sulphur in the tablets will break up any yeast, so purchase excellent wine yeast and add it to your juice.
For the next week, remove the lid from the container and stir the mixture once a day,, and then reseal.

Wine is produced by anaerobic fermentation. The alcohol content is directly proportional to the sugar present in the juice. |
